Deck Repair in Clarksville, TN

Deck Repair

Most decks around here do not need replacing. They need the bad boards out, the rail made solid, and the steps rebuilt.

New gray composite deck boards laid tight across a screened porch, with the porch framing and screen posts standing above the deck surface.

New composite decking on a screened porch

Tennessee weather is hard on a deck. Boards go soft at the ends first, fasteners back out, the rail starts to move when you lean on it, and the steps rot from the bottom of the stringer up. All of that is fixable long before the frame is gone.

We pull and replace the boards that are shot, re-fasten what is sound, rebuild railings so they actually hold when someone leans, and cut new stringers and treads when the steps are the problem. Pressure treated or composite, whichever you have.

If the framing underneath really is done, we tell you that instead of selling you a repair that buys you one more season.

Scope, plainly: Repair, rebuild and replacement of existing deck components. Building a new deck at or above the Tennessee $25,000 state Contractor License threshold is outside our scope.

Questions

Deck Repair FAQ

How do I know if a board needs replacing or just cleaning?
Push a screwdriver into it near the end where it sits on a joist. If it sinks in easily the board is done. Gray and weathered on top with solid wood underneath usually just needs cleaning and sealing.
My railing wobbles. Is that a big job?
Usually not. Most wobbly rails come down to post connections that have loosened or the wrong fastener at the post base. That is a same-visit repair on most decks.
Can you match my existing deck boards?
On pressure treated, yes, though new boards look lighter until they weather in. On composite we match the brand and color when it is still made, and we tell you up front if it has been discontinued.
